Payroll Specialist – Projects (Contract)

Location: Sydney
4–6 Month Contract, with extensions
Start Date: ASAP
Hybrid Working: 1 Day In-Office

Overview:

We’re partnering with a leading retail organisation undergoing a significant payroll systems transformation. This role offers the chance to work on a high-impact UKG implementation project alongside a collaborative and experienced payroll and project team.

You’ll bring your end-to-end payroll expertise and award interpretation knowledge to support testing, implementation, and compliance activities. The business is also launching a second global payroll project, providing the opportunity to gain international project exposure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the UKG (Kronos) project – focused on design and payroll testing phases.

  • Interpret Enterprise Agreements (EAs) and relevant Awards (specifically the VRSR Award) to ensure accuracy during testing.

  • Support end of financial year (EOFY) payroll processing.

  • Action audit items, specifically relating to superannuation.

  • Explore legislative obligations under Payday Super changes.

  • Join the project team for an upcoming implementation of a new global outsourced payroll solution

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Strong end-to-end payroll experience, ideally at Team Lead or Manager level.

  • Previous experience working on payroll system implementations and/or transformation projects.

  • Proficient in interpreting EAs and Awards, especially within complex or regulated industries.

  • Knowledge of SAP ECC6, UKG (Kronos), and Excel (advanced).

  • Up-to-date understanding of Australian payroll legislation, including Payday Super obligations.

  • Highly organised, self-driven, and comfortable operating in a project-based environment.

  • Industry background is flexible – experience in retail or large-scale organisations a bonus.

Team & Culture:

  • Join a highly collaborative payroll and project team spanning Sydney, Brisbane, and New Zealand.

  • Be supported by experienced colleagues, including the Payroll Team Lead and current incumbent.

  • Flexible work environment with a focus on delivery and outcomes.
